It felt good to me Like, all I know is that when you first started singing I was like, Damn -Yes The hook besides the concept I just kind of didn’t give me that — It didn’t knock me in the face You kind of lost me there -Okay -Feels like it could get bigger for what we’re talking about -Absolutely -To me, the gold, “Going for the gold, victory is ours.” It’s a little on the nose -Okay -You have to arrive at gold differently -What if it was something like “You can push me down You can do this You can do this But don’t count me out.” Like if there was some way to lead to that -Yeah -We definitely need to work on lyrics There’s not a rise here And if we talk about the song for something that’s so anthemic, then we want to bring some energy to it So any more — Do me a favor Can I hear this song with something grimier? -A dirty electric guitar or an organ? -There you go. Today, I need to show Anna some of the ideas that I have for a new hook and also making it sound more anthemic, grittier, In looking at the kind of things that Bebe says, every time you said, “gold,” she just couldn’t get around it -Yeah -For her You have that line from your bridge ♪♪ Break all my bones ♪♪ -Yeah -So I think that your hook is bones and that you could switch it to where it has a positive light, like “This is it I can feel it in my bones -That’s awesome The part of the song that we definitely need to nail is the hook You know, it’s the part that should get stuck in everybody’s head And I definitely want Bebe to connect with it [ Both vocalizing ] ♪♪ Print my name in bold ♪♪ ♪♪ Victory is ours, I’m going for the gold ♪♪ -Then we’ll have those — Unh We did use her original chord progression so the chords still feel like the song But when you put heavy drums over ’em and guitars, it starts to take on a new life -♪♪ In my bones ♪♪ -What Bebe resonated with was your chorus We made that — We made that abundantly clear -Yeah, man -So the big issue with this is getting the production right These anthemic songs for thing as lofty as the Olympics, you can get very cliché very quickly So I think that Bebe liked that this wasn’t cliché and it felt authentic I heard this, like, guitar rif carrying the verse Took it a little more rock And it was like this ♪♪♪♪ -Yeah. Yeah The changes right off the back would have to be adding a simpler type of melody so the chorus is what shines ♪♪♪♪ -I want to hear this -And I feel like the melody that Ryan was inspired to do he kind of broke it up in a way that kind of left air and space and people to think and really get into it that way I like how you shortened that Yeah -♪♪ It’s in the blood I bleed It’s in the fire I need -It’s in the blood I bleed it’s in the fire I breathe -Yeah. Exactly -[ Laughs ] This is so funny -And then you go back in -♪♪ And we don’t need a miracle miracle ♪♪ -Having Bebe on “Songland” has certainly kept us on our toes She’s trying to take the lyric and melody of Anna and I’s song, “Bones,” and lead to the chorus of Greg and Ryan’s song, “Miracle.” That’s the kind of next-level songwriting that only someone like Bebe could really pull off because she could hear the way they could lay over each other -That works -I think it’s gonna be epic
